March – July 2024

Phase 04:

Once more we returned to Caporciano in order to test our hypothesises in 1:1 scale. The situated approach of the project led to functional proposals at their intended location for the inhabitants to explore with all their senses.

Il Giardini - The Gardens
Senza Tetto - Church Ruin
The ruin itself offers a high qualityof stay already without major interventions. Simply by securing the substance, the old ruin comunicates a story through the interior and the facade. The church interior and the rooms behind it can also be used as more intimate shelters for hikers. A new tile sets a small sign of the times.

Percosi dell’acqua - Collecting Water
By installing rainwater collection systems on roofs and other suitable surfaces, wa- ter can be collected in special tanks. This collected rainwater can be used in varies ways such as for watering the local gar- dens. A prototype was built on site and has already collected some amounts of water.

L’Orto dei Pomodori - Shed
A small shed was designed for Caporciano‘s tomato garden, which can be used as sun protection, shelter and as a place to stay. Design approaches developed in Berlin were further developed with the users on site and thereby adapted to the location.

Nuova Fondazione - Brise-Soleil
On site, a former crane foundation is trans- formed into a public space with a Brise- Soleil. The silhouette of the awning is a reference to hanging laundry and is there- fore a symbol of life and movement in the village.

Il Lago – Renaturation and Sewage Treatment Plant
The transition from Caporciano into the landscape is expanded by a constructed sewage treatment plant and a rainwater retention basin. Using Caporciano‘s was- tewater as a local resource enables the re- activation of the lake as a place of biodi- versity, quality of stay and identification character.
